The capital of the French Riviera, is now the 5th largest city in France, and as such offers a mix of modern industry, urban attractions and nightlife, but also a taste of the golden era of seaside palaces and casinos. There are old and new parts to the town, but the Vieille Ville is Nice's most colourful attraction, with narrow streets filled with shops, galleries and restaurants leading on to the Cours Saleya with its daily market. The broad Promenade des Anglais stretches along the seafront as far as the eye can see and leads to Nice's oldest garden, the Jardins Albert 1er.
